PED Directive 2014/68/EU For Pressure Equipment

In June 2014, the EU issued the latest Pressure Equipment Directive 2014 / 68 / EU, which will be enforced from July 19, 2016 to replace the old Directive 97 / 23 / EC, For the pressure pipes, boilers, pressure accessories and safety accessories with the maximum working pressure greater than 0.5bar, the EU requirements must meet the requirements of PED directive, which covers the whole process of design, manufacture, inspection and raw materials of pressure equipment, and the CE mark can only be pasted after the approval of the EU notified body.

Basic safety requirements of PED directive

The basic safety requirements in the appendix of PED directive mainly include:

-Design (e.g. strength, reliability);

-Machining (e.g. machining of parts or components);

-Inspection (such as pressure test, dimension test, wall thickness test, welding test, etc.);

-Mark / acceptance mark (manufacturer's acceptance mark);

-Operation guide;

-Materials: Materials conforming to European harmonized standards, materials with European material approval (EMA), materials with special assessment (PMA)

PED classification

According to Appendix II of PED, pressure equipment can be divided into I, II, III and IV qualification evaluation levels. For pressure equipment with low risk, the Department shall operate according to mature engineering practice. In order to realize the classification of pressure equipment, the manufacturer shall make judgment according to the following information:

1. Equipment type: pressure vessel, boiler, pressure pipeline, safety accessories, pressure accessories;

2. Fluid state: gas or liquid (at the maximum working temperature of the equipment, if the saturated vapor pressure (gauge pressure) of the fluid does not exceed 0.5bar, it is regarded as liquid, otherwise it is regarded as gas);

3. Fluid category: Category 1 (dangerous fluid: flammable, explosive, toxic, highly oxidizing, etc.);

Category 2 (non hazardous fluids: fluids and vapors other than category 1)

4. Maximum allowable pressure PS and volume V or nominal size DN of the equipment;

5. The maximum working temperature of the equipment is ts;

PED authentication mode

The risk of pressure equipment categories from I to IV increases step by step, and the more stringent the conformity assessment procedures are:
